Our regulatory expert, Elise Van Dijk presented the Clean energy for EU islands’ study on regulatory barriers and opportunities for clean energy transition on the EU islands, with particular attention to barriers related to grids and DSOs. During this session she also presented the first insights into the in-depth study in the new phase of the secretariat. This study aims to deep dive into connection policies and management of energy systems on non-interconnected islands. The study will be finalised in April 2024, so keep an eye out on the website and our blog for updates.

During day two Elise and Th!nk E colleague Sarah Bogaert introduced the 30 for 30 Clean energy for EU islands support package from the European Commission.

Over a period of 3 years the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat, of which Th!nk E is a major partner, will support 30 selected islands/groups of islands on their pathway to 100% renewable energy by 2030.

Sarah drew out the secretariat's history and presented the context and practical details for the technical assistance to 30 EU islands. Applications can be submitted by 06 September 2023.
