Launching the Covenant of Companies’ pledging scheme

The European Commission initiative Covenant of Companies for Climate and Energy (CCCE) is calling on businesses across the EU to sign a pledge committing to reduce their carbon emissions and receive support to do so. Through this pledging scheme, the CCCE is aiming to make an additional significant contribution to a climate-neutral and energy-independent Europe through the private sector – in particular through small and medium-sized enterprises, which have a major role to play in this respect.

The CCCE offers a pledging system with a pyramid approach, based on four levels of commitment. Companies can move up a  level as they take more action towards reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. For each level reached, there is more guidance material, courses and assistance on offer by the CCCE. In addition, companies will enjoy recognition through a system of Bronze, SIlver or Gold Seal awards. In order to advance, reporting on progress and results is required.

Companies from all EU countries are eligible, regardless of their size and sector. A special focus is put on companies from Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Romania and Spain who will be able to request Technical Assistance in their national language.

Applicants are invited to use the online form.

Interested applicants can also participate in a webinar on 23 May to receive more details about this opportunity. More details will be available on the CCCE website.

Background

The Covenant of Companies for Climate and Energy (CCCE) is a pilot initiative that was launched in October 2022. Its objective is to encourage and support companies to step up their contribution to a clean energy transition, energy savings and related climate objectives, as set out in the European Green Deal.  The initiative also aims to provide practical, step-by-step guidelines and technical assistance to European companies to help them take concrete actions resulting in the decarbonisation of their businesses.
