Wallonia Energy Communities (SPW)

Energy sharing Wallonia (SPW)

The project concerning energy sharing and energy communities in Wallonia aims at establishing a facilitating framework for citizens. The framework is designed:to provide effective and comprehensive assistance to project leaders in the creation of energy community and sharing activities, andto deliver accessible and multifunctional learning tools. In this project Th!nk E is engaged in providing assistance to several stakeholders through a Helpdesk. For the facilitating framework, Th!nk E is responsible for the communication aspects. The key is to provide clear information to a wide range of stakeholders. The project aims to be clear and inclusive.

Energiedelen Vlaanderen

Energiedelen Vlaanderen for KCVS (Kenniscentrum Vlaamse Steden)

Energiedelen Vlaanderen delineates the challenges for cities and municipalities when it comes to implementing energy sharing within apartment buildings. This study, done for KCVS (Kenniscentrum Vlaamse Steden), explores the different possibilities of sharing energy between residents.

BIDC

BIDC

The BIDC project seeks to contribute to the future of bipolar DC grids. It does this by helping set up a nanogrid in Energyville (Genk, Belgium) where different elements such as a battery and DC/DC charger can be tested.Tests on DC grid stability and potential hazards (such as arching) are also being conducted. In addition, BIDC project contributes to the modification and updating of  the grid code ensuring it is ready for future use of DC grids

VOBAT

VOBAT

In VOBAT, the Flemish Department Omgeving, contracted GEP, VUB, VOLTA, and Th1nk E do deliver training for installers on home batteries. The training contains 5 modules, of which 2 were produced by Th!nk E, namely “non-integrated inverter battery systems”, and “advanced battery system”. The latter includes typically either larger set-ups or less common battery technology. The training is currently available online through Volta’s e-learning platform

Antwerp

Energy sharing in the City of Antwerp

The Flemish government published in February 2021 a draft decree amending the Flemish Energy Decree, partially transposing the EU Directive 2018/2001 on renewable energy and renewable energy communities. Following its publication, the City of Antwerp wished to investigate whether and under which conditions a positive business case can be worked out for the joint production and sharing of renewable energy in various types of apartment buildings.
Together with Witteveen+Bos, Th!nk E performed a technical and financial analysis of different generic concepts for sharing of renewable energy within apartment buildings. Th!nk E worked specifically on simulating different energy sharing scenarios using advanced simulation tools, while making sure the results of the simulations are translated into clear and concrete conclusions for various stakeholders.
The result of the analysis is an advisory report (in Dutch).

Bat2Portal

Bat2Portal brochures provide information about the possibilities as well as points of attention while integrating neighbourhood batteries in residential areas and industrial zones in Flemish Brabant, Belgium.

The information made available through this brochure is the result of extensive research into neighbourhood batteries led by Th!nk E in cooperation with Green Park Energy, Fieldfisher and FINN Agency. The research was completed between August 2019 and June 2020 and was possible thanks to the subsidy of the Province of Flemish Brabant, aims achieving the environmental objectives by 2040.

ostend

Ostend Science Park

The Science Park in Ostend is a R&D and industry site in development. The challenge Witteveen+Bos, Th!nk E and BDO accepted, was the development of a fossil-free energy concept. Th!nk E was in charge of the simulations and optimisations to identify the viable business cases and cooperation model.

mechelen

Mechelen Keerdok

Mechelen Keerdok is a brownfield development close to the city centre. The city of Mechelen tendered a request for an optimal energy concept for the building with parking, offices and retail. Th!nk E worked with I.Leco and SuReal to deliver the study, where Th!nk E focused on the energy system optimisation and dynamic sizing of components and cooperation strategies.

Empower: support to storage technology selection

Part of the EMPOWER project is the development of an educational tour on storage and renewable energy. Together with Imtech, Th!nk E made the selection based on relevance and complementarity to explain different forms of energy storage, technical feasibility and potential support in case of technical or operational problems. Th!nk E further prepared the information sheets.

logigrid

Logigrid for VIL.be

The Flemish logistic sector is greening its energy supply as part of its targets to become sustainable and climate neutral. Concepts as energy trading, flexibility exchange and its valorisation are analysed and optimised by Th!nk E, together with Powerdale and Witteveen+Bos. The project will assess up to 5 geographically spread logistic clusters in Flanders.

borgt

BORGT

Home batteries were an emerging technology in 2018 and still are in 2020. Clarity is needed with regards to safe and optimally functioning installations. In BORGT, several partners work together on second life, LiFEPO and lead acid safety and certification guidelines. Th!nk E coordinates the project and the set-up of a lead-acid and LiFePO4 set-up.
