Introduction
IN.SPIRE develops next-generation PV inverters for low- and medium-voltage applications, delivering breakthroughs in efficiency, reliability, grid interaction, and cyber-physical resilience. It targets commercial-industrial hybrid systems and utility-scale plants, addressing Europe’s inverter market vulnerabilities and supporting the 750 GWp solar target by 2030.
Approach
The project delivers a modular low-voltage hybrid inverter on CE+T’s PRISMA platform with partial power conversion, grid-forming control per RfG 2.0, and embedded health monitoring; a first-of-a-kind 3 kV 3 MVA full-SiC medium-voltage inverter reducing BoS costs; and cross-cutting innovations like AI-driven predictive maintenance, stress-steering, and brand-agnostic cybersecurity guidance. Validated through HIL testing, lab demonstrations, and a real-world Croatian site, results are shared via open access, training, and standards engagement.
Our role
Th!nk E coordinates the project, leading stakeholder engagement for societal readiness, use-case assessments, capacity building (webinars, summer school, trainings), and exploitation planning with IP roadmaps. It facilitates exchanges with sister projects, initiatives like ETIP-PV/ESIA, and standards bodies (CENELEC, ENTSO-E), ensuring innovations align with market needs, policy, and EU autonomy goals while driving uptake through targeted outreach.
