Introduction

Unleash harnesses the flexibility potential of decentralised technologies already available in the residential sector to enable more efficient integration of renewables. Consumer flexibility assets are placed at the epicentre of the energy transition, addressing current limitations for flexibility services in Belgium.

Approach

The project unlocks the large-scale participation of factory heat pumps and electric boilers throughout Belgium, delivers short-term TSO services, and contributes to the long-term flexibility and electrification strategy towards 2050. It integrates evolving regulatory boundary conditions, consumer behaviour analysis, and market scenario modelling to inform both technical developmentand policy recommendations.

Our role

Th!nk E leads Work Package 3 on "Evolving boundary conditions and scenario identification," combining expertise in flexibility services and energy markets with analysis of consumer reactions to flexibility signals and energy consumption profiling. This includes conducting policy overviews, identify ingregulatory barriers, and contextualising findings within the broader market environment.
